Speak Up in Behalf of Nature Preservation
Most people do not harm the environment intentionally. In fact, they often are not even aware that what they are doing is harming the nature which is why it is crucial to speak up in behalf of nature preservation whenever and wherever you have the opportunity. It is crucial, however, not to directly attack the people and avoid being too aggressive because you may achieve the opposite effect.
Nature preservation is something that requires everyone’s cooperation which is why it is necessary to spread environmentally conscious behaviour. The more people you convince in the necessity of nature preservation the greater the chance that the future generations will inherit a habitable planet. Waiting for the government to take action will not save the planet as the governments typically react only when it is too late. But if they sense that the people demand an action, they will be forced to change their attitude to the environment.
You may feel that you do not have much power when it comes to nature preservation efforts but your actions are much more important than you realize. If you convince only one person for the cause, you have achieved a major success because that person may convince another person who in turn may convince another, etc. But if you want to convince that one person who will spread the environmental awareness, you need to be brutally clear because environmentally reckless behaviour has become so common that many people do not even realize how serious problem we have.
It is crucial to speak about the importance of nature preservation as much as possible but avoid speaking about it too much because people may start avoiding you. However, whenever you sense an opportunity to steer the conversation in the direction you want it, use it and talk about the effects our actions have on the environment and how this affects people too. Talk about health hazards of chemicals that are used in agriculture and households (cleaning agents) but be sure to offer an environmentally friendly solution that works. For example if you are talking about health and environmental hazards of pesticides, emphasize the advantages of organic gardening/crop production methods and efficiency of organic pesticides which do not harm the environment nor human health.
Another thing that always works is money. You can be sure that you will have everyone’s attention if you tell them how they can save a lot of money without making any dramatic lifestyle changes. The thing is that many people erroneously think that environmentally friendly solutions are expensive which is why it is crucial to make them understand that they do not need to be rich to help preserve nature. Talk about your electricity saving methods and what effect they had on your monthly electricity bill, how many litres of water you saved by simply repairing a leaky toilet tank, how walking to the grocery helps you maintain a healthy body weight, etc. If not for environmental benefits, they will use your tips to save money although some will also start thinking about their impact on the nature. And when they do, they are more likely to join the cause for nature preservation.
